Walter Erra Hubert exhibits in Arezzo from June 14 to July 12, 2014
At Via Cavour 85 in Arezzo, on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 6PM, we are pleased to present the solo exhibition of painting of Walter Erra Hubert by the title of within/without. The exposition, curated by art critic and historian Michele Loffredo, director of the Vasari Museum, and artist and Californian curator Danielle Villicana D’Annibale, will host a selection of recent paintings, never before displayed in Arezzo, of the noted American artist, in conjunction with the 2nd edition of Icastica Art Events. Internationally acclaimed, as well as founder and creative director and visionary of Silver Birches of Pasadena (California), Walter for over forty years has worked on projects for prestigious clients all over the world, including the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (The Grammys) and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (The Oscars).
The solo exhibition presents fascinating abstract visions and includes a selection of six large acrylic paintings and one “monograph,” a technique dear to the artist.The exhibit will remain visible, at free entrance, until Saturday, July 12, 2014, with the following hours: Tuesday to Saturday, from 4PM to 8PM, Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6 from 11AM to 8PM, or by appointment. At the inauguration will be present journalist Fabrizio Borghini and his troupe from the television transmission of his creation Incontri con l’Arte. The catalogue, curated by Danielle Villicana D’Annibale with a critical essay by Michele Loffredo will accompany the exhibit.
For this special occasion, a beautiful lyric concert will follow the inauguration of the exhibit at 9:30PM, also at free entrance, at the Circolo Artistico of Arezzo at Corso Italia, 108. The performance, entitled Across the sea, will include music by Bernstein, Ranzato, Léhar, Arlen, Rossini, Lerner, Piaf and Puccini. Elisabetta Materazzi, soprano from Arezzo, will sing with Mark Saltzman, noted American tenor from Pasadena, accompanied by Niccolò Nardoianni on piano. Special thanks to the president of the “Circolo Artistico” Carlo Cigna for his kindness and availability, allowing us to celebrate this artistic and cultural exchange between the cities of Pasadena and Arezzo.
Michele Loffredo accurately describes the art of the American artist: “Not held back by the logic of thought and born of the visceral necessity to thrust beyond, painting for Hubert is an exercise of ascending: the canvas is the secret mirror which reflects the voyage of the soul, it makes itself mediator with the unknown, on it the revelations of the impalpable are camped, of the inexpressible, presences as intangible apparitions that recall abyssal memories deposited within the unconscious.
The Californian artist compares himself with absolute terms, realizing in a holistic vision a painting that is a sinking symbolic connection between the deepest states of the self, the initiatory voyage of the heroes that departing from their world in crisis, by way of the overcoming of trials, attaining a new awareness. At the base of all art there is always a transformation of man in a process of becoming infinite, to integrate progressively into the deepest parts of the unconscious, towards totality, because not bringing to the conscience the visions of the psyche is equal to not being aware of existing."
Last April Hubert exhibited in Arezzo for the first time, participating in the 35° edition of OroArezzo with the group exhibition, Fineries in contemporary art, curated by Danielle Villicana D’Annibale at the Arezzo Fiere & Congressi. The new edition of Icastica Art Events in Arezzo, Tuscany, became a perfect occasion to invite once again the artist to Arezzo, and to display a selection of his most recent works, in conjunction with the event.
Hubert has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions. His works are present in prestigious private and public collections on an international level including The Times Mirror Corporation and Pacific Bell.
Brief biography:
Walter Erra Hubert was born in raised in Southern California. His education and formal training as a painter began at an early age, and culminated in a Master's degree in Painting and Drawing from The Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. While still in school, Walter began showing his work at several prestigious galleries in Los Angeles, eventually finding homes as part of the permanent private holdings of Otis Chandler, Tom Brokaw, the Los Angeles Times, AT&T and many other important collections.
Over the years Walter’s creative output has also been featured at the Los Angeles County Art Museum, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the Newport Art Museum. In addition to his painting accomplishments, Walter is an internationally recognized lecturer on art and design. He has been the keynote presenter at the International Festival of Flowers in Belfast, Ireland, as well as a guest lecturer at the San Francisco De Young Museum of Fine Art, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
Walter’s bestselling book of floral photography, Naked: Flowers Exposed (HarperCollins) has become a seminal text for many college and University photography courses throughout the country. Walter founded one of the most successful design studios in the United States, Silver Birches in 1976. He and his company are sought after for their cutting edge design aesthetic, and for creating many of the most spectacular and innovative environmental installations throughout the country.
He has worked as designer and art director on fashion shoots for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Gianni Versace, and continues to design and produce large scale events for Steven Spielberg, Bruce Springsteen, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Dustin Hoffman, Joel Silver, Jennifer Aniston, Tom Cruise, DreamWorks and The Disney Companies to name but a few. He recently served as the creative director and co-producer for the closing event at the Venice Film Festival and the Biennale for five thousand guests in Piazza San Marco. Walter currently divides his time between his studio in Pasadena, California and his Sermoneta studio in Lazio.

Negli spazi di Via Cavour 85, ad Arezzo, sabato 14 giugno 2014, alle ore 18:00, siamo lieti di presentare la mostra personale di pittura di Walter Erra Hubert dal titolo within/without.
L’esposizione, a cura del critico e storico dell’arte Michele Loffredo, direttore del Museo di Casa Vasari, e dell’artista e curatrice californiana Danielle Villicana D’Annibale, ospiterà una selezione di opere recenti e inedite ad Arezzo del noto artista americano, in concomitanza con la 2° edizione di Icastica Art Events.
Rinomato a livello internazionale, nonché fondatore, direttore creativo e visionario di Silver Birches di Pasadena (California), Walter da oltre quarant'anni lavora su progetti per clienti prestigiosi in tutto il mondo, inclusi il National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (The Grammys) e l’Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (The Oscars).
La personale presenta visioni astratte affascinanti e include una selezione di sei grandi dipinti ad acrilico e un “monografo”, tecnica che sta molto a cuore all’artista.
La mostra proseguirà, a ingresso gratuito, fino a sabato 12 luglio 2014 con il seguente orario: dal martedì al sabato dalle ore 16:00 alle 20:00, sabato 5 luglio e domenica 6 luglio dalle 11:00 alle 20:00 o dietro appuntamento.
All’inaugurazione saranno presenti anche il giornalista Fabrizio Borghini e la troupe della trasmissione televisiva da lui ideata Incontri con l’Arte.
Il catalogo, curato da Danielle Villicana D’Annibale con la composizione critica di Michele Loffredo, accompagnerà la mostra.
Per questa occasione speciale, un bellissimo concerto lirico seguirà il vernissage alle ore 21:30, sempre a ingresso gratuito, presso il Circolo Artistico di Arezzo a Corso Italia, 108.
L’esibizione, intitolata Attraverso il mare, includerà musiche di Bernstein, Ranzato, Léhar, Arlen, Rossini, Lerner, Piaf e Puccini.
Elisabetta Materazzi, voce soprano di Arezzo, canterà insieme a Mark Saltzman, celebre tenore americano di Pasadena, accompagnato da Niccolò Nardoianni di Arezzo al pianoforte.
Un ringraziamento speciale va al presidente del Circolo Artistico Carlo Cigna per la gentilezza e la disponibilità, che permette di celebrare lo scambio artistico e culturale tra le città di Pasadena e Arezzo.
Come descrive accuratamente Michele Loffredo, quella dell’artista americano è un’arte “non trattenuta da logiche di pensiero e nata dalla viscerale esigenza di spingersi oltre, la pittura per Hubert è esercizio di ascesi: la tela è lo specchio segreto che riflette il viaggio dell’anima, si fa mediatrice con l’ignoto, su di essa si accampano le rivelazioni dell’impalpabile, presenze come intangibili apparizioni che richiamano abissali memorie sedimentate nell’inconscio.
L’artista californiano si confronta con termini assoluti realizzando in una visione olistica una pittura che è inabissamento simbolico tra gli stati più profondi dell’io, viaggio iniziatico dell’eroe che partendo dal suo mondo in crisi, attraverso il superamento di prove, perviene ad una nuova consapevolezza.
Alla base di tutta l'arte vi è sempre una trasformazione dell'uomo in un processo di divenire infinito, per integrare progressivamente nell’Io parti sempre più profonde dell’inconscio, verso la totalità, perché non portando alla coscienza le visioni della psiche equivale a non essere consapevoli del proprio esistere".
Lo scorso aprile Hubert ha esposto ad Arezzo per la prima volta, partecipando alla 35° edizione di OroArezzo con l’esposizione collettiva collaterale Preziosismi d’arte contemporanea, curata da Danielle Villicana D’Annibale ad Arezzo Fiere & Congressi.
La nuova edizione di Icastica Art Events diventa così l’occasione perfetta per invitare nuovamente l’artista ad Arezzo, e per mostrare una selezione dei suoi più lavori più recenti, in concomitanza con la manifestazione.
Hubert ha partecipato a numerose mostre personali e collettive. Le sue opere sono presenti nelle prestigiose collezioni di The Times Mirror Corporation e Pacific Bell, ma anche in molte altre raccolte private a livello internazionale.
Breve biografia:
Walter Erra Hubert è nato e cresciuto nel sud della California negli Stati Uniti. La sua educazione e la sua formazione come pittore è iniziata in tenera età e si è completata con un Master in Pittura e Design all’Otis Art Institute di Los Angeles. Durante gli studi scolastici, Walter ha iniziato a esporre il suo lavoro in diverse prestigiose gallerie a Los Angeles. In seguito le opere d’arte sono state acquistate per far parte delle collezioni private permanenti di Otis Chandler, Tom Brokaw, Los Angeles Times, AT&T e molte altre importanti raccolte.
Nel corso degli anni la produzione creativa di Walter è stata presentata anche al Museo d’Arte di Los Angeles County, al Museo d'Arte di San Diego e al Museo d'Arte di Newport.
Walter è pure un docente riconosciuto a livello internazionale di “art and design”. È stato presentatore e relatore al Festival Internazionale dei Fiori a Belfast in Irlanda nonché, come docente, ospite al San Francisco De Young Museo di Fine Art, al Baltimore Museo d’Arte e al Museo d'Arte di Santa Barbara.
Il suo libro “bestseller” sulla fotografia floreale, Naked: Flowers Exposed (HarperCollins), è diventato un testo fondamentale per molte Università e corsi di fotografia.
Hubert ha fondato uno degli studi di design di maggior successo negli Stati Uniti, Silver Birches, nel 1976. Lui e la compagnia sono ricercati per il loro design estetico all'avanguardia e per la creazione di innumerevoli installazioni ambientali spettacolari e innovative.

Walter attualmente divide il suo tempo tra il suo studio di Pasadena, in California, e quello di Sermoneta, nel Lazio.
