Giuseppe Ciccia was born in Messina in 1946. His activity began in 1963 while traveling among Messina, Rome, Florence, Basil, New York and Tokyo, participating in the great movements of contemporary art.

In 1968 he moved to Florence and earned a degree from the Academy of Fine Arts (Accademia di Belle Arti) as well as the qualification to teach drawing, art history, painting and artistic anatomy. He taught Scientific and Artistic High School, as well as at the Academy of Fine Arts of Tokyo at the Florence campus. In these years, his painting style was still of a Neo-expressionist matrix, but he was influenced by the suggestions of American painting, and thus from Abstract expressionism his painting evolved to the gestual and behavioral tendencies of the period.

In 1975 he founded the artistic Movement "Assurgentismo." He has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions, in Italy and in foreign countries.

The works of Ciccia are present in public spaces, museums and religious institutes. The artist lives and works in Florence.
